Easy DIY Ant Spray

Have you had an issue with ants yet this season?  Whether indoors or out, send pesky ants packing the natural, nontoxic way!

This easy homemade spray contains ingredients that are both unpleasant and toxic to ants, while being safe and friendly to people, plants, and pollinators. ⁣A win-win!

Recipe for Easy DIY Ant Spray

To a 16-oz spray bottle, add the following:⁣
  • 10 drops OnGuard essential oil blend (alternatively, you could use Cinnamon or Clove)⁣
  • 10 drops Peppermint essential oil ⁣
  • A couple squirts of dishwashing detergent (which I recommend if you’re using the spray outside but omit when using the spray inside.)⁣
  • Water to fill

⁣To use: spray the infested area heavily with this solution. Repeat as needed until ants are gone. ⁣

I used this spray recently to get rid of an ant colony I’d discovered in the yard near our garage. Having had ant visitors show up at our doorstep in previous years I was anxious to stop them in their tracks!⁣

I ended up pouring the entire 16-oz bottle on this rather established-looking ant colony.  ⁣

Ants do NOT like the aroma of Cinnamon, Clove, or Peppermint, which makes those oils perfect repellents. They also can’t survive the heat of the Cinnamon or Clove, making either a great choice for ant elimination.

Conveniently, the OnGuard blend includes both of those hot oils, so that’s my go-to for whipping up this spray. (Alternatively, you could use Cinnamon essential oil or Clove essential oil.)⁣
